Under MLC 2006 Convention (Regulation 1.4), recruitment costs must be borne entirely by the shipowner — not the seafarer. At Xfinity Maritime, we enforce this with zero exceptions. No registration fees, no processing charges, no hidden deductions. We are regularly audited by DG Shipping and flag state inspectors to ensure full compliance. Our partnerships with principals are structured so that all mobilisation costs — medicals, STCW courses, travel to joining port, and visa fees — are covered by the vessel operator.

Every seafarer receives a Seafarer Employment Agreement (SEA) that meets MLC 2006, Maritime Labour Convention standards. Contracts clearly state: basic wages, overtime rates, leave entitlements (minimum 2.5 days per month), hours of rest (minimum 10 hours in any 24-hour period), repatriation terms, medical coverage, and termination clauses. All SEAs are reviewed by our compliance team and made available in a language the seafarer understands. We ensure ITF-acceptable CBA terms where applicable, and maintain transparent allotment arrangements so families receive wages on time, every time.

We invest in our seafarers' professional growth through funded training programmes. This includes STCW mandatory refreshers (PST, PSSR, AFF, EFA, PSCRB), advanced tanker operations (ATOTO, ACTO, AGTO), ECDIS type-specific training, BRM/ERM, high voltage management, and DP certification. We work with DG Shipping-approved training institutes across Mumbai, Chennai, and Goa. Officers being prepared for SIRE 2.0 / CDI inspections receive dedicated pre-joining briefings. Cadets enrolled in our cadet programme receive structured sea-time with mentored on-board assessments aligned to CoC progression.

Seafarer wellbeing is not a checkbox — it's our core philosophy. We provide 24/7 confidential helplines for mental health support, conduct regular welfare checks during contracts, and maintain a dedicated Welfare Officer who liaises between crew and families. Our family support programme ensures dependents have a direct point of contact for medical emergencies, wage queries, and repatriation updates. On board, we work with operators to ensure recreation facilities, internet access, quality provisions, and MLC-compliant living standards. We also support ISWAN and SAILOR programmes for seafarer mental health awareness.

We maintain a transparent career matrix for every rank — from GP Rating to Master, from Junior Engineer to Chief Engineer. Promotions are based on documented competency assessments, sea-time completion, vessel performance appraisals, and CoC upgrades. Our fleet database tracks each seafarer's progression so we can proactively offer senior positions as they become eligible. We prioritise internal promotion: officers who perform well with our principals get first preference for upgraded positions. Cadets entering our programme have a clear 5-year roadmap to officer certification with milestones at each stage.

As mandated by DG Shipping and MLC 2006 (Regulation 2.5), we maintain a financial security deposit (bank guarantee) specifically to cover repatriation costs in all circumstances — including abandonment, injury, illness, or contract termination. This guarantee ensures every seafarer we deploy can return home regardless of the shipowner's financial situation. Repatriation covers: air travel to home port, accommodation during transit, wages owed up to the point of repatriation, and personal effects transportation. We have never failed a repatriation commitment, and we never will.
